Words are colorful and colors evoke meaning.

This idea guides my current work. I developed an alphabet of colors in which each letter has its own color. Now I’m able to write with colors and at the same time the painted words convey mood and meaning.

Besides the actual meaning, my panels are colorful concrete paintings – for me a symbol of Castro itself. The Castro is the most colorful neighborhood of San Francisco - extrovert, lively, bubbly. But then again, beneath the gay surface there is reflection, wit and a sense of uniqueness. I capture this by choosing slang words that stress the sense of belonging to a distinct group of society.
